About the Bike Ride
The charity I've selected is called the "Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer". It's a two-day ride from Vancouver, B.C., to Seattle, Washington. The money collected from this event will go to the BC Cancer Foundation, in support of research, aid, and education. You can ride in it as a group, but I've elected to ride as an individual. The ride is scheduled for June 15-16, 2013. For more information, you can visit this site: http://va13.conquercancer.ca/site/PageServer?pagename=va13_homepage.

My Training Regimen
Since the ride is in June, I have about six months to prepare. While this is a decent amount of time, I want to make sure I'm absolutely prepared, and plan to train as much as possible. Each week I will trade off between resistance and cardio exercises. I'm allowing myself a maximum of two non-training days, in which I will stretch and rest my body. For each of the other five days of the week, I will exercise for one hour. The first week, I plan to do cardio training for three days, and resistance training for two days. Then the week after that, I will switch the two, doing resistance training for three days and cardio for two. I will repeat this pattern from there on. If I ever miss a training session, I will have to make it up by doing an extra hour of exercise at my next workout.
This may be a little confusing, so I'm keeping a calender of my workouts, which should eliminate any befuddlement.

What I Hope for this Blog
If this blog were to achieve my greatest expectations, I'd earn a million subscribers, and my work would inspire people everywhere. But I'm realistic, and I don't really expect that--or even want it that much. This blog is mostly for me. Although it's also partially for my CAS project, I don't want to do this for a grade. I want to do this because it's for a good cause, and it will encourage me to be healthier and more thoughtful about who I am. The greatest hope I have for this blog is that at the end I will be a better person. I want to reflect on my final post, and see a healthier, happier, more committed and connected Galen. If I can accomplish that, I will be more than content.
